Mythology Behind Jatayu

In the epic Ramayana, Jatayu was a demi-god in the form of a vulture who attempted to rescue Sita, Lord Rama's wife, from the demon king Ravana. As the story goes, Ravana was abducting Sita when Jatayu heroically intervened, trying to stop the powerful demon. A fierce battle ensued, resulting in Jatayu being wounded and falling to the ground. This spot is believed to be where Jatayu fell, and it serves as the inspiration for the center. This narrative captures values like bravery, loyalty, and sacrifice, which are deeply cherished in Indian culture.

The Iconic Jatayu Sculpture

One of the main attractions of the Jatayu Earth's Center is the awe-inspiring statue of Jatayu, which is the largest bird sculpture in the world. The sculpture stands at around 200 feet in length, 150 feet in width, and 70 feet in height, designed by renowned film director and sculptor Rajiv Anchal. Constructed on top of a hill at an altitude of about 350 meters (around 1,200 feet) above sea level, the statue is designed with intricate detail, from the feathers to the beak, capturing the mythical bird's grandeur. Inside, visitors can explore a multi-dimensional museum and theater that narrates the Ramayana and the heroic tale of Jatayu.
