Post-Ride Cleaning and Maintenance

Abrasive sand particles accelerate wear on moving components if left uncleaned after a riding session. Washing the motorcycle immediately prevents sand from hardening into unreachable crevices. Use a pressurized water spray to flush sand from the engine cooling fins and suspension linkages. The motorcycle drive chain requires specific attention because sand sticks to chain lubricants, creating a grinding paste that rapidly deteriorates the metal sprockets and chain rollers.
Clean the chain thoroughly using a dedicated chain brush and a safe degreasing solvent to remove all contaminated lubrication. Once the chain is completely dry, apply a fresh coat of dry-film chain lubricant, which resists sand accumulation better than wet oils. Inspect the air filter immediately after washing the motorcycle to prepare it for the next operation.
